Done as an art college project in printmaking, these are eight silkscreens from a set of 20 variations of the same image, by using the same four screens and interchanging the five colours.

My collection of cans, picked up off the streets after being totally flattened by cars, provided amazing, two-dimensional graphics of these familiar 3D objects.

I’ve always had a fascination for the 2-dimensional nature of flattened, discarded material like this. At college, I remember painting the two sides of a flattened IrnBru can, just for the hell of it (below). Having found this ‘Rusty Cola’ can on the street several years ago, I used it as the first of my found ‘Cans’ series of large prints on canvas.

These followed the ‘Waves’ series that features colourful water reflections from photographs I’ve shot in Barcelona, Paris, Crete, London and Edinburgh.

Reflections of Barcelona

Back in 2004, I investigated producing prints for canvas. In 2000, I had taken a number of mesmerising photos of waves and reflections in Barcelona, then later in Paris and Crete, from which I knew I had to produce something. After having spent a couple of months locating the best printer down south, ‘Waves’ was the first series of images to be produced.

Although encouraged by initial sales of these canvas prints, and despite having a list of potential series I wanted to investigate, I stopped producing these and the ‘Waves’ series due to the pressures of client deadlines.
