In 1995, I created the name, identity and promotional concepts to launch Greenfinch Design, formerly Baillie Marshall Design. The stamp and postal theme not only provided numerous graphic opportunities relating to good communications and delivery but also provided an opportunity to have a bit of fun with the identity. The illustration was done by Brian Taylor, our fantastic, in-house illustrator.
Sheets of stamps were produced and these were individually stuck onto letterheads, then rubber-stamped with the Greenfinch name and launch date. A First Day Cover was sent to all existing and prospective clients and to the media. Christmas cards featured a robin and at Easter we sent out unbranded ‘nest’ boxes of chocolate eggs. But my idea to send ‘Happy Birdie cards’ to clients didn’t go ahead!
The company expanded to include Turnstone Advertising, Merlin New Media and Heron PR. Further illustrations by Brian provided the content for three more stamps, typography for the rubber stamps was by yours truly. When the four companies came under one wing (sorry), Jim Greig was responsible for naming the group – Avian. The triangular stamp, with a flock of birds, represented the group.
