The exhibition of paintings by Malcolm Cheape in June 2009 was the latest successful solo exhibition to be shown at the Fraser Gallery this year.
“Over the past decade, Malcolm Cheape’s prolific output of paintings has earned him a reputation as one of the United Kingdom’s leading marine artists. His solo exhibition at the Fraser Gallery gives us the opportunity to see a substantial body of his distinctive work, embracing both historical and contemporary subject matter” according to Dr R G W Prescott. “Malcolm’s subject matter embraces both our coastal fishing fleets and the deep-sea endeavours of whalers, warships and merchantmen. His work reflects a fascination with the form and structure not only of ships and boats but also of the creatures of the sea.” Adds Prescott, “ … he does not simply record images of vessels or sea creatures but captures the quintessence of their being, and the context in which they are, or were historically, encountered.”
Since creating the corporate identity for the St Andrews gallery in June 2008, I’ve been working with Gallery Directors, Roderick and Louise Fraser to develop the house style for their exhibition books, promotional cards, posters and magazine advertising.
In September, Light in the Darkest of Places by Robert MacMillan was the next exhibition at Fraser Gallery. “Over recent years, Robert MacMillan has undeniably developed a strong reputation as one of Scotland’s foremost figurative painters” says Roderick, “We take great pleasure and some pride in presenting the first major solo exhibition of Robert MacMillan’s work in a Scottish gallery.”
Fraser Gallery’s distinctive web presence was created by the award-winning, Edinburgh-based, digital and print communications company, The Weather.
